One Year

I just wanted to take a moment to mention that today, One year ago The Name Nook's first name related post was published.  2013 has been quite the year for The Name Nook.  Between losing and gain bloggers, losing interest and regaining, ect.  We are exciting for what 2014 holds for The Name Nook!  We have a lot of things up our sleeves!! :)

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR LOVELY READERS for reading!!  We COULDN'T do this without YOU ALL!! :)

So thank you!
Happy New Years Eve!!

Here is to a wonderful 2014 for you, me, all our bloggers and for The Name Nook blog!

Client Game #1

This is going to be my first “client” game! Here are the rules: you may put in 5 answers per client, if the question asks for a set then you must answer in a set (ex. Naming twins give me 5 sets of twin names), and finally have fun!!! I will announce the winners before my post on January 16th J

Client Number 1: This couple already has two daughters named Phoebe and Juliet and just found out they are having a 3rd! They have no idea where to start, give them some suggestions.

Client Number 2: It’s going to be a full house of boys for this couple, they already have Arlo, Porter, and Barrett, and just found out they are having a fourth. They don’t care about popularity, and don’t want any of the names to sound too similar, suggest some boys names!

Client Number 3: This couple is playing one team green for their first baby! For girls they like long flowy princessy names for first names, and for boys they like strong, masculine ones for first names. They also don’t want anything too popular, so keep it out of the top 500. The middle name should be short and sweet. What would you name their first child?

Client Number 4: No matter what this couple does, they cannot agree on names. His favorites are Avery, Brooklyn and Ella, her’s are Rosalina, Penelope, and Juliette, help them find some middle ground for their first daughter. They are also stuck on middle names, so give them complete combos.

Client Number 5: This couple already has two daughter Audrey Victoria and Anna Olivia and just found out that they are having a boy! Should they continue the A trend or pick a different letter for their first son, you choose! For his middle, something long to match his sisters!

names from 16&Pregnant

Happy Friday!! I’m writing this post on Wednesday a few hours before finishing my last exam. After this, I’ll only have three more semesters of my BA. Crazy. Before writing one of our harder exams, my friends and I decided that the best way to chill post exam would be to watch hours of trashy reality TV. Trashy reality show of choice? 16 and Pregnant. So, this post is on the names the moms picked from season 3 of 16 and Pregnant.

Noah James – I love this name. Noah is such a classic. James is a bit of a filler middle, but the combo sounds so lovely that I can’t fault it.

Joshua Devan and Noah Matthew – Noah Matthew is also gorgeous. Noah was a popular choice this season. Joshua was after the father and although I love the idea of honoring names, on this show it makes me cringe because of how often the parents end up hating each other. Sure enough, they didn’t stay together. I like Devan well enough, but would be more apt to spell it Devon.

Miah Christine This spelling is cringe worthy. The mother pronounces her name as My-uh, but if I read it first, I’d definitely say Mee-uh. I seriously hate the name Maya, but at least Maya/Maia would make sense. I’m neutral towards Christine.

Jamie Jr – I like Jamie for a boy, but I’d prefer it as a nickname for James or Jameson. Also, the whole naming the baby after the father thing makes me super uneasy on this show. I’m not sure if this baby truly doesn’t have a middle name, or if Jr is the middle name.

Kylee Sue – At first, when they were talking about this name and I imagined it as Kylie, I was ok with it. When they showed it spelled out on the screen, I actually laughed out loud. Everything about this name says redneck to me. The spelling is ridiculous, the flow of it and Sue in general.

Preston Michael I went to elementary school with a guy whose first name was Michael and last was Preston so this combo obviously sounded super familiar to me. Currently, one of my best friends is named Preston so I have a fab association that I think has made me like the name a lot more than I would otherwise. Although I really like the combo, Michael is another naming after the dad situation.

Enrique Jeiro Seriously, naming after dads was the trend of the season. I really do not like either of the names, but this baby’s father is Hispanic, so I can at least understand wanting to use names from that heritage.

Kay’den Elijah Ugh. Grammar in names is probably one of my biggest naming pet peeves. No one needs an apostrophe in their name. Ever. Caden Elijah would be a darling, totally valid combo, but Kay’den. Just no.

Aubri Rose – I have so many issues with Aubri. First issue, that spelling is ridiculous. If you’re going to use it, at least spell it right- Aubrey. Secondly, Aubrey is a masculine name. I feel like a lot of people think its related to Audrey, but it’s actually derived from Alberich a clearly masculine German name. Thirdly, I just don’t like it. Rose is so common as a middle name and another name I just don’t like.

Aydenn Anthony Spelling. What even is Aydenn. Aidan is so lovely and that spelling just looks awful without changing the name at all. I just don’t get it! Anthony is cute, but alliterative combos aren’t my deal.

So those are my thoughts on the names from season 3 of 16 and Pregnant. What are your thoughts on them- agree? Disagree? Leave a comment! :) And have a fab holidays!

Name of the Week!

This week's name of the week is...
Since I'm wrapping up finals for my first semester as a sophomore in college, I thought it would be cool to put a little info about the place where my college is, Salem, MA.

Gender: Boy or Girl (I prefer it on a boy)
Origin: Hebrew
Meaning: 'peace'
Rank: Not in the top 1000.
Other names that go well with Thomasina: Victoria, Noemi, Lyra, Malachi/Mordecai, Peregrine, Asher
My opinion: I really like this name.  It has a gothic feel to it so that's an automatic win for me.  It has the terrible association with the infamous Salem Witch Trials which really isn't the best thing but if you can see past that, this name is totally usable.

YOUR opinion: leave it in the comments!!!

L Names

Hi friends! So I have officially decided to come back and be a regular part of The Name Nook again and I am super excited about it. So thanks again for the other bloggers for welcoming me back!

I plan on doing some fun posts BUT today may be a little boring because I was suppose to work at 2pm but instead I got called in to go this morning until 8pm tonight. I am doing the best I can on my cellphone right now, so bare with me!

Lately I have been LOVING 'L' names for boys! Which is weird because I never ever have liked a single 'L' name until recently. I just never saw the appeal in them.

Here are my favourites:

Lincoln - This name is getting SO popular where I live & with celebrities like Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard and kind of celeb Kailyn Lowry from Teen Mom 2. I think its such a sweet name. I feel like its nice and fresh where people think its unique but its not trashy and trendy.

Logan - I use to like this name for a girl because my neighbours granddaughter was named Logan and I just saw it as a girls name. NOW I cannot see it on a girl AT ALL. I think its SO handsome for a boy.

Lachlan - Again I love that this name has a newish feel to it but its not trashy and trendy. I think its absolutely adorable and I would totally use it.

Levi - I like Levi more a middle name but I am starting to like it as a first name. I think its just a cool name.

London - I like this name for both genders. I don't know if I would be able to use it because I live 45 minutes from London, Ontario & most of my family lives there, so I'm not sure but I think its a cool name.

Lennon - Again I like this name for both genders. I think its super cool and awesome.

Anyways sorry for this random post, I promise to have ones that get more into names and are more fun to read but this is as good as it gets from my cellphone! Thanks for reading.

What are YOUR favourite 'L' names & WDYT of the names I listed?

Jaylyn ♥
