Frozen Names!

I know that the world is now obsessed with the movie Frozen, so I thought I would continue the movie theme I’ve kinda got going this week and talk about the main names in the movie!!

Elsa- I just simply adore this name. It’s so cute and spunky J I met the most adorable Elsa in the store like 2 years ago, and she just made me LOVE it! I also love the character in Frozen, let’s be honest, ‘Let it Go’ is one of my jams.

Anna (AH-nuh)- I adore this pronunciation and this name! I think it’s just simply adorable. Also, it’s a palindrome, which I think is very fun. Also, ‘Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” that’s one of my other jams.

Kristoff- This is one that I’m a little iffy on. I’m not really ever a fan of K names or names with a prominent F sound :P Also, I would like Christophe more.

Olaf- This name is just kind of silly to me. I don’t think it really could work on a baby in the English speaking world right now.

Hans- Though he may be evil, his name is pretty awesome.

Divergent BNG

I'm not sure if any of you are Divergent fans out there, but I sure am!! So lets to a little rename game with the cast members :) The rules will be posted beneath each picture.

Rename #1 Shailene Woodley: Give her a first name that is unique but seems to fit in with popular names of today. Her middle name should be a revival/vintage name.

Rename #2 Theo James: Have his first name be a nickname name. His middle name should be a funky 3 syllable name.

Rename #3 Zoe Kravitz: Give her a first name with a good meaning and her middle name be somewhat dated.

Rename #4 Ansel Elgort: Give him a first name that isn't in the top 1000 baby names. His middle name should have an animal related meaning.

Rename #5 Jai Courtney: Give him a one syllable first name and a celebrity baby name as his middle.

Hope y'all have fun :D

Let's Talk Names

Can I just say that I haven't been into my favorite baby names in awhile and just can't seem to find a set that I completely love.  It frustrates me!!

Ava and Sophia have been on my list for years, I just love the names!  Middle names are something that are pretty set as I want to honor my family!  Middle names that I really want to use are Elizabeth (After me and my aunt and my great great grandma), Michael (Grandpa's middle name) and Reed (Dad's middle name and family name).

For me girl names are really use to find a bunch that I love.  I have always loved Ava, Sophia, Abigail (not as much anymore), Isabella, Olivia, Ella, ect.  (See...easy to find girl names I love!)

But boys...not so easy!  I like Jackson, but don't know if I can see myself using it.  Recently been liking Cohen and Brooks.  My girl names are typically popoular names, but not so much for my boys!  So it's hard to find boy names that go well with the popular girl names that I like.  Other boy names that I like are Brayden, Gavin (Can't use though because I have a cousin named Gavin!),  and I use to like Cooper and kinda liking it again!

I would love suggestions on other names that would go with the following combos I have liked or just put together!
Girls:
  • Ava Elizabeth (Always have loved this combo!)
  • Sophia Christine (Middle name after aunt)
  • Olivia Grace
  • Charlotte Lynn
Boys:
  • Cooper Reed
  • Jackson Michael
  • Mason Thomas
  • Caden William

I would love any feedback and suggestions!!  I'm not set on any of these names except Ava Elizabeth!!

Thanks :)  Happy Monday!

The Great and Powerful Mary

Happy Thursday Everyone! I’m so sorry that I missed two Thursdays ago. Life got in the way, and I completely forgot and I feel awful about it. This week I’m going to talk about variations on the ultimate super name: Mary.

I’ll start off with two of the most obvious variations. Marie and Molly. Marie is the lovely French version of Mary that is starting to fall from favor as a first name. Marie is a super name in her own right, but instead of as a first name, as a middle. I personally love Marie, I think it’s beautiful, and love how unexpected it is as a first name because of how often it’s been used a middle (though I love it for a middle too). Molly is an off shoot of Mary. Molly started off as a nickname for Mary but can now stand alone. I really like Molly, but as it’s my sister’s name, I cannot ever use it.

Two other diminutives are Mara and Miriam. I think these two are a little less obvious than Marie and Molly, but they still have a connection. Mara is a beautiful name that has never been very common in the United States. I only know one, and she’s a lovely person, so that association makes me like this name a lot. Miriam is a name that I find absolutely adorable. I love the nicknames Mimi and Miri J. Miriam as never been very popular here, but I still think it sounds so classic and lovely.

The last two names that I’m going to talk about I think are the least obvious variants; Moira and Malia. Moira isn’t exactly my style, but I think it’s an awesome way to maybe honour a Mary in an unconventional way. Just like Mara and Miriam, this name has never been common in the US, although unlike the other two, it’s more unheard of as well. Moira also reminds me of Peter Pan as it’s one of Wendy’s middle names. Malia then has been thrust into the lime light because of President Obama’s daughter. There are many spelling variations of Malia but I think this most simple one is the best.

So what are your favorite variations of Mary? Or do you like just Mary best?

Name of the Week!

This week's Name of the Week is...

Gender: Girl
Origin: French
Meaning: 'Lily flower; French form of Lillian'
Rank: Not in the top 1000.  25 babies were born with this name.
Other names that go well with Liliane: Elle, Ava, Angeline, Antoine, Quincy, Alexandre
Famous people with this name: Actress Liliane Montevecchi
My opinion: It's my number 4 name for girls.  This is the name of my paternal grandma and I think it's absolutely beautiful.  It may be a "Lily" name but it's a perfectly normal, but different spelling, name.
Your opinion: Leave it in the comments!

Choosing Name Series: Jenn

Hey there!! Im Jennifer from the Vanzant Family Blog! So excited to be apart of the name series! Hope you come over to my blog and check it too! I am a stay at home mom of three under two! Yup, you heard that correctly! Two year old twins and a sweet miracle who is about to turn one! I blog about my everyday life with raising kids, recipes, DIY projects and more! You can view my blog here

1. What are your children's names? Jocelynn Caye Vanzant, Jeffrey Paul Vanzant and Madelynn Rae Vanzant

2. Are any of the names honoring anyone? Jeffrey's name is for sure. We had a very hard time ttc before going thru IVF to get our twins. As you all know IVF is outrageously expensive. Well, my dad and my husbands dad helped us out a bit in this situation. What better way to say thank you than name our son after them both? The name Jeffrey comes from my dad. His name is Jeffrey and we call him Jeff. I actually call him dad;) The name Paul comes from Matts dad. It is his middle name and the initials "JP" actually run in Matts family. We call Jeffrey Paul "JP". Thats all he knows actually. He has no clue his name is Jeffrey Paul hah! Jocelynns middle name is "Caye" which is my middle name too.

3. What other names did you consider naming them? Oh goodness. We had so many names. It got so hard for me that I ended up letting Matt choose their official names. I liked every name we had on our lists. We didn't find out what we were having when we were pregnant with Maddie. We called her "nugget" while we were pregnant. We did decided fairly quickly on a name choice for either a boy or a girl. I loved our boy name! It was "Jace Matthew". I love both of those names and they just fit so well together. When nugget decided to come and we found out she was a she.. her name fit immediately. It is so funny how after you choose a name, that baby just fits that name so well.

4. Why did you pick the names you chose? There was just something about those names. I just loved them. And they fit each of our babies so well.

5. Did you and your spouse have trouble agreeing on a name? Not really. We were just so indecisive about the middle names. I gave up after a couple of months and told the husband to choose. I was so tired of all the names games. He chose the middle names and I love them all!

6. Did you come up with a name before the child arrived?  Yes we did. We knew what the twins names would be before they were born. The same thing with Maddie too. We just didn't know which name we would use for her.. a boy or a girls name. But honestly i knew i was pregnant with a little girl and was in love with the name Madelynn and calling her "maddie" already.

7. Explain the process about naming the child. Well, if you're like me you kind of had a hint ever since you were just a baby yourself what you wanted to name your kids. I had the perfect name chosen growing up but I made a mistake and shared it with a friend. She had a baby before I did and guess what? Yup, she named her child that. So when me and Matt found out we were pregnant the first time we dove into the name books, apps and more. I skimmed across the name Jocelynn one day and just couldn't stop thinking about it. The same thing happened with Madelynns name too. I just loved them so much! It fits their characters so well too! It is so crazy. So dive into those books or apps or even favorite TV shows! You will know when you come across a name you love! I know I did with all of mine!

Thank you so much Jenn for guest posting today!  Hope you all enjoyed her post :)

My updated top 10!!

Hey guys!
I am so excited to do this post!
Last time I did a top 10 post was about 6 months ago!!
Below, I have listed my current top name, the name in that spot 6 months ago, the name in that spot 1 year ago, and why I love my current name.
Enjoy!

Girls:
#1: Lia Rose
6 months ago: Lia Rose
1 year ago: Lia Rose
Why I love this name: -Lia are the last three letters of my Nana's surname. Lia is also Italian, and I am 50% Italian. Rose is my great-grandmother's name, and my middle name. It is also used to honor my other great-grandmother, whose name is Daisy (both are flower names). I am set on using this name for my first daughter, and can't imagine using any other name.

#2: Juliet Ainsley
6 months ago: Lily Jane
1 year ago: Sarah Jane
Why I love this name: I started loving Juliet when Stephanie (@anastasiaruby on YouTube) used it for her daughter. I like the -ette spelling as well, but I think -et looks simpler. Ainsley is used to honor my best friend Lindsey. If you rearrange the letters in her name (and change the 'd' to an 'a') you get Ainsley!

#3: Annabel Kate
6 months ago: Abigail Sarah
1 year ago: Hannah Rae
Why I love this name: Annabel honors my nana, Mary Ann, and my best friend, Lindsey Anne. I think Annabel sounds like a princess, and love the nickname options (Annie, Belle, Nell, Nellie, Elle, etc). Kate is my cousins name, and honors two other cousins who are named Caitlin.

#4: Charlotte Jana (JAY-nuh)
6 months ago: Alison Lindsey
1 year ago: Alison Lindsey
Why I love this name: I just think Charlotte is absolutely adorable, and currently have a huge name-crush on Charlie. Jana is to honor my Grammie, whose middle name is Jane.

#5: Zara (ZAH-ruh) Siobhan (shuh-VAWN)
6 months ago: Isla Siobhan
1 year ago: Rylee Annabelle
Why I love this name: Zara is honoring my cousin, Sara. Also, 'Z' is SUCH a cool initial! Siobhan is the Irish variation of the name Jane, which is my Grammie's middle name.

Boys:
#1: Nicholas Anthony
6 months ago: Nicholas Anthony
1 year ago: Nicholas Anthony
Why I love this name: Nicholas is my great-grandfather's name. He passed away about 2 years ago. I love the idea of using his name for my first son.  Also, it is the masculine version of my cousin's middle name, Nicole. Anthony is my grandfather's name and my brother's middle name.

#2: Daniel Scott
6 months ago: Daniel Scott
1 year ago: Daniel Scott
Why I love this name: Daniel is my best guy-friend's name. He means the world to me and I love his name. Scott is my dad's name.

#3: Andrew Colin
6 months ago: Andrew Colin
1 year ago: Aidan Joseph
Why I love this name: Andrew comes from the middle name of my dad and grandfather, which is Alan. When my great-grandparents were naming my grandfather, they combined the Al- in Alexander and the An- in Andrew to make Alan. I think Andrew ages well and is adorable! Colin is (kind of) a combination of my cousins names, Connor and Benjamin.

#4: Aidan Joseph
6 months ago: Aidan Joseph
1 year ago: Andrew Colin
Why I love this name: I love Aidan because of it's meaning: 'fiery spirit'. It makes my think of an outgoing boy with a big personality.  Joseph is my uncle / godfather's middle name.

#5: Samuel Ronan
6 months ago: Samuel Leo
1 year ago: Colin Richard
Why I love this name: I'm not really sure why I love Samuel. I just think Sam (or Sammy when he is younger) is so cute!!! Ronan is another name I love because of it's meaning: 'little seal'.

Thank you for reading!
