-------------------

Classic Literary Names

As a fan of names, books, and history it’s not surprise I would take notice of some great names in some classic novels. In this collection, I’ll tell you all about 8 of them and even give some recommendations on pages to turn.

Ladies

1. Daisy (The Great Gatsby)

Stats

Meaning: White flower

History: One of the most popular floral names, Daisy originally meant “the days eye” and was first used as a first name in the 19th

Origin: English

2012 Rank: 172

Gatsby is one of my favorite books of all time, and Daisy Buchanan, the just awful but beautiful love of the title character. While the classic is set in the 1920s, Daisy is still a popular and usable name as well as being timeless.

century.

2. Scout (To Kill a Mockingbird)

Stats

Meaning: First explorer

History: From the English phrase ‘to scout’, it is unisex, and majorly known as the narrator in Lee’s 1960s novel.

Origin: English

2012 Rank: Not in top 1000

I first read TKAM in middle school and fell in love with the beautiful story, social satire and everlasting story of racism and childhood innocence that works with any time period. Scout is a cute, nickname-type name that would be great on either gender.

3. Emma (Emma)

Stats

Meaning: Universal

History: From the old English word meaning “whole”, Emma was a 9th century Queen of England, and an 11th century saint. The name became popular there in the 1700's.

Origin: Latin

2012 Rank: 2

Jane Austen’s Emma is a kind hearted girl whose predictions often give her cloudy vision. In Emma, she attempts to matchmake her wealthy friends, but learns about herself on the way. Emma is a lovely, beautiful name but I’ve always been more partial to the similar Ella.

4. Clarisse (Fahrenheit 451)

Stats

Meaning: Illustrious

History: Clarisse is the French form of Clarice, which itself stems from Clara, and became common in the middle ages. Another literary connection is Clarice Starling from Silence of the Lambs.

Origin: French

2012 Rank: Neither Clarisse or Clarice are in the top 1000.

Clarisse McClellan is the starry-eyed acquaintance of protagonist Guy Montag who has a large effect on his future decisions, which will change his life forever, and the course of history. Clarisse is a gorgeous name that is fancy enough without being frilly and that will age perfectly.

Gentleman

1. Winston (1984)

Stats

Meaning: From Winas Town

History: Derived from an Old English word meaning ‘joy stone’, Winston has roots in modern history with Winston Churchill, and as the middle name of John Lennon.

Origin: English

2012 Rank: 616

In George Orwell’s dystopian classic 1984, Winston Smith is an “everyman” type who represents the rebellious spirit of human nature in a heartbreaking novel. (Which I devoured). Winston is a classic, handsome name that’s not heard much anymore.

2. Simon (The Lord of the Flies)

Stats

Meaning: To be heard

History: Simon was the name of many people in the Bible, most importantly as another name for Peter, a Saint and the first Pope. Simon has always been popular in the Christian world

Origin: Hebrew

2012 Rank: 255

Simon is the “Jesus” type figure in LOTF, a novel about a group of schoolchildren trapped on an island whose quest to survive turns to chaos. Simon is often the voice of reason and a neutral figure who meets an untimely end. Simon, a biblical name is an amazing name any child would love to wear.

3. Rhett (Gone With the Wind)

Stats

Meaning: Counsel, advice

History: Rhett comes from a Dutch surname and its most famous use is Rhett

Butler.

Origin: English

2012 Rank: 508

Rhett, synonymous with Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 classic story of Scarlett O’Hara’s dream to rise back up again, no matter what she would go through and the dashing Rhett Butler, who leaves her in the dust. Rhett is a strong, masculine name that has southern roots.

4. Holden (Catcher in the Rye)

Stats

Meaning: From the hollow in the valley

History: From a last name meaning “deep valley”.

Origin: English

2012 Rank: 296

Holden Caulfield, the narrator and relatable teenager in Salinger’s Catcher comes-of-age amongst rye fields, phonies and hotel rooms. Holden is one of my personal famous names and I find it classic and enduring that would age well.

Thanks for reading! This is my first post on here but I hope to have more ;) (We hope to have you back Sydney!  Thank you so much!!)

Guest Post

Hi everyone! Its Jaylyn :) I use to be a blogger on here to but I got busy with my new job and had to take a break from it! Jamie asked me to do a guest post today, so here I am! I hope everyone has been doing well and enjoying the blog posts from the rest of the wonderful girls on here.

Since it has been a while since I blogged on here, I thought I would give you a little update on some of my favorite names. I kind of have 2 different lists of baby names because one side of me likes girly, traditional names and the other side of me likes trendy, unisex names. So here they are :)

Girl List #1
-Mila Genevieve
-Stella Gray
-Isla Maeve
-Ella Caroline
-Ava Elizabeth
-Willow Abigail

Girl List #2
-Sloane Genevieve
-Harper Eloise
-Lennon Violet
-Miller Abigail
-Emersyn Paige
-Reese Alexa

So as you can see they are quite different. List #1 has girly names and almost all of them end in the letter 'A'. Where as list #2 are all names that are more commonly used on boys. What are your favourite names from both lists?

Now for boys names. I really haven't been into any of my boys names as of late. I think its because I really only see myself having girls but here are some names that I still like.

Boy List #1
-Sawyer Cade
-Smith Easton
-Rowan Elliott
-Lincoln Cade
-Logan Asher

Boy List #2
-Mason Cash
-Camden Jack
-Brighton Marcus
-Kacen James
-Ayden Levi
I did 2 lists for boys to because I usually only have a top 5 names at a time and those are the top 5's that I go between the most. What are your favorite names from those lists?

Thanks for stopping by today to read my guests post! And thanks to all the bloggers on The Name Nook for letting me guest post :) You never know, maybe I will be back sooner rather than later......

Gabby's Guest Post

Happy Friday! Enjoy Gabby's blog post! :) Don't forget we are always looking for guest bloggers, email babynamebloggers@gmail.com if interested!!
-------------------

Hello everyone! My name is Gabby and I feel honored to be a guest blogger! If you followed me on Formspring (@LunaScarlett) or watch my Youtube videos (hpfreak54) you know that I’m the BIGGEST Harry Potter fan ever.  So I’m gonna list my top 15 names for each gender from the series.  I will give background info on the first 10 but underneath will be the final five with just the meaning and origin. Here we go! DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!!

We are going to start with girls!
  1. Luna-Latin-moon-#2 name.  I’ve always loved the name Luna but the character Luna Lovegood in the series just made me love it so much more.  She’s the eccentric daughter of Quibbler editor Xenophilius Lovegood.  Her mother is deceased after an experiment with spells went wrong.  She goes on to marry Rolf Scamander and have twin sons. Luna Lovegood is portrayed by Evanna Lynch.
  2. Bellatrix-Latin-warlike-#9 name.  Clearly I got this name from Bellatrix Lestrange née Black who is the PSYCHO sister of Narcissa Malfoy and Andromeda Tonks.  She’s Lord Voldemort second in command and is a ruthless killing machine.  She’s famous for driving Neville Longbottom’s parents to insanity and killing her own niece, Nymphadora Tonks.  She was married to Rodolphus Lestrange and was killed by Molly Weasley.  Bellatrix Lestrange is portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter.
  3. Narcissa-Greek-numbness-#1 Guilty Pleasure name.  Narcissa is Bellatrix Lestrange and Andromeda Tonks’s sister, Draco Malfoy’s mother and Lucius Malfoy’s wife.  Though she never claimed to be a Death Eater, follower of Lord Voldemort, and never bore the Dark Mark, she believed in Pureblood supremacy.  Narcissa never killed or tortured anyone.  Narcissa Malfoy is portrayed by Helen McCrory.
  4. Andromeda-Greek-ruler of men-#3 Guilty Pleasure name.  Andromeda Tonks is Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy’s sister, Ted Tonks’s wife and Nymphadora Lupin née Tonks’s mother.  She was disowned from her family because she married a Muggle, something the Black family (the family she’s a part of) looked down upon.  Her scenes were filmed but never appeared in the final theatrical cut.  Andromeda Tonks is portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter.
  5. Alecto-Greek-unceasing. Alecto Carrow was Amycus Carrow’s twin (possibly, I forget) sister.  Alecto was a Death Eater and a teacher of Muggle Studies when Severus Snape was headmaster. She, along with her brother, never fought in the Battle of Hogwarts since they were kept captive in the Ravenclaw Tower.  Her fate is unknown but she most likely was sent to Azkaban, wizard prison.  Alecto Carrow is portrayed by Suzie Toase.
  6. Hermione-Greek-pillar queen-#18 name.  I know many people don’t like this name, especially my boyfriend, but I love this name despite the fact i can’t stand Hermione Granger.  Hermione is a Muggle-born witch and is Harry and Ron’s best friend.  Hermione goes on to marry Ron Weasley and have a daughter and a son.  Hermione Granger is portrayed by Emma Watson..
  7. Lysandra-Greek-one who is freed.  Lysandra Yaxley née Black is Arthur Weasley’s maternal grandmother.  Not much is known about Lysandra except that she is a pureblood witch and was married to Arcturus Black II.  I ADORE the name Lysandra and its male counterpart Lysander.  I think it’s a very fresh name and a great HP name since it isn’t apparent that is a name from this iconic series.
  8. Lavender-English--the purple flowering plant. Lavender Brown is an annoying Gryffindor student who begins a relationship with Ron Weasley in their sixth year.  She is later critically injured/dead (it was never specified) in her seventh year during the Battle of Hogwarts by werewolf Fenrir Greyback  I love the name Lavender even though the character really isn’t the best association.  Lavender Brown is portrayed by Jessie Cave.
  9. Cassiopeia--Greek --clever. Cassiopeia Black wasn’t really mentioned much in the series but appears on the Black family tapestry in the Order of the Phoenix film.  She is Sirius Black’s grandaunt.  It’s on my Guilty Pleasure list of girls and I think this name is a great alternative to the uber popular Cassandra and Cassidy.
  10. Fleur--French--flower. Fleur Delacour was a student the French wizarding academy Beauxbatons and was a contestant in the Triwizard Tournament.  Her sister’s name is Gabrielle, her mother’s is Apolline but her father’s was never mentioned.  She later marries Bill Weasley and has 3 children.  Fleur is a recent addition to my favorites list and a great one syllable name!  Fleur Delacour is portrayed by Clemence Poesy.
Numbers 11-15: Helena--Greek--light. Ginevra--Italian--fair one. Rowena--English--fame joy--#7 favorite name.  Victoire--French--victory. Aurora--Latin--goddess of the dawn--#1 name

Here are the boys!
  1. Draco-Italian name-dragon-#4 name.  Draco Malfoy is the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy and is a student in Slytherin.  He’s the bully of the school with the help of his acquaintances Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, and Blaise Zabini.  There’s much deeper meaning to the character that is only shown if you read the books (unless you very good at catching on to the abuse in the movies), which is why Draco is my all time favorite male character.  Draco is such a badass name.  Draco Malfoy is portrayed by Tom Felton.
  2. Lucius-Latin-light-#5 name.  Lucius Malfoy is the husband of Narcissa Malfoy and the father of Draco Malfoy.  Lucius is a rich man  who basically buys his way through everything.  He abuses Draco into being like him.  He’s a complete asshole who is also a coward but I love him for some reason! No not just because I pictured him as a hottie when I read the books.  Lucius is quite a sexy name you have to admit!  Lucius Malfoy is portrayed by Jason Isaacs.
  3. Sirius-Greek-dog star-#8 name.  Sirius Black was Harry’s godfather.  He was sent to Azkaban for basically being at the wrong place at the wrong time.  He’s a loyal and loving man to Harry.  He was killed by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange in the Battle of the Ministry.  He is the reason I love this name.  Sirius Black is portrayed by Gary Oldman.
  4. Kingsley-English-from the king’s field.  Kingsley Shacklebolt was a member of the Order of the Phoenix and was employed as an Auror of the Ministry.  After the Battle of Hogwarts, he was an Acting Minister for Magic.  For those who’ve read the books and watch the movies, Kingsley Shacklebolt is such a suave guy.  Kingsley is such a slick and cool name in my opinion even though it ends in -ley which is quite feminine.  Kingsley Shacklebolt is portrayed by George Harris.
  5. Abraxas-Greek-mystical word-#3 favorite Guilty Pleasure name.  Abraxas Malfoy is Lucius Malfoy’s father.  Not much is known about him except the fact he died by dragon pox.  I think the “x” in it makes this name so unique.  I feel like the Malfoy family and Black family names are the coolest.
  6. Hugo-German-bright in mind and spirit.  Hugo Weasley is the son of Ron and Hermione and their youngest child.  Again not much is known about him since he only appears in one chapter of the WHOLE series.  Hugo fits in with the ends in “o” trend that’s beginning and is a fresh replacement of Hugh.  Hugo Weasley is portrayed by Ryan Turner.
  7. Marvolo-Latin-ill will.  Marvolo Gaunt is the maternal grandfather of Tom Marvolo Riddle aka Lord Voldemort.  He, like the majority of the Gaunt family, is a Parselmouth, a person who has the ability to speak to snakes.  Not much is known about Marvolo except that he was a very bad man.  Yes there’s a terrible association with this name but it’s so cool, the main reason I love Harry Potter names.
  8. Hyperion-Greek-the one above.  Hyperion is Draco Malfoy’s son’s middle name, Scorpius Hyperion.  He’s mentioned in the Epilogue of Deathly Hallows and that’s it.  Hyperion is a very cool mythological name since it’s the name of one of the 12 Titans in Greek mythology.  Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy is portrayed Bertie Gilbert.
  9. Fenrir-Norse Mythology--fen-dweller.  Fenrir Greyback is the most ferocious werewolf mentioned in the series.  He created Remus Lupin’s lycan side and killed countless children.  Again, like Marvolo, it has a terrible association but it is such an interesting name.  The name is pronounced fen-rear. Fenrir Greyback is portrayed by Dave Legeno.
  10. Cedric-English-kindly and loved.  Cedric Diggory was a Hufflepuff student who competed in the Triwizard Tournament alongside Fleur Delacour, Harry, and Viktor Krum.  Contrary to popular belief, Voldemort ordered Peter Pettigrew to kill him, Voldemort didn’t kill Cedric Diggory.  In the movies, Cedric Diggory is portrayed by Robert Pattinson (yes the guy who plays Edward Cullen).
Number 11-15:  Remus--Latin--no found meaning.  Firenze--Italian--name for Florence.  Rabastan--Arabic--head of the serpent. Severus--Latin--stern or severe.   Antonin--unknown origin --stubborn or resistant

Caitlyn's Post

Happy Friday everyone!  Sorry for this post being posted so late but hope you enjoy Caitlyn's guest post! :)  PS if you want to guest blog, email babynamebloggers@gmail.com!
---------------------------------------------------

Hi all! I’m Caitlyn, AKA Ninja Robot, from Formspring and Yahoo Answers. I’ve been interested in baby names ever since I was little, so I’m really excited about being able to guest post here!

It’s no secret that I love mythological names. While I’m generally not that fussed about the meanings of names, I do love learning about their origins. And since origins are a major part of mythological names, that could be a contributor as to why I like them so much.

Some of my favourite mythological names are:

Female:
Andromeda (Greek - daughter of Cassiopeia)
Artemis (Greek - goddess of the hunt)
Avalon (Celtic - island of the dead)
Circe (Greek - goddess of magic)
Daphne (Greek - water nymph)
Echo (Greek - mountain nymph)
Freya (Norse - goddess of love and war)
Guinevere (Celtic - King Arthur’s wife)
Juno (Roman - goddess of marriage and childbirth)
Luna (Roman - goddess of the moon)
Morgana (Celtic - alternate name of the sorceress Morgan le Fay)
Morrigan (Celtic - goddess of death)
Nimue (Celtic - sorceress and seductress, sometimes the Lady of the Lake)
Pandora (Greek - the first woman)
Phoebe (Greek - titan and moon goddess)
Selene (Greek - goddess of the moon)

Male:
Achilles (Greek - greatest warrior and demigod)
Ares (Greek - god of war)
Draco (Roman - dragon killed by Minerva)
Eros (Greek - god of love)
Frey (Norse - god of fertility and prosperity)
Griffin (Greek - creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion)
Hades (Greek - king of the underworld)
Helios (Greek - god of the sun)
Loki (Norse - trickster and god of mischief)
Mordred (Celtic - King Arthur’s illegitimate son and traitor)
Orion (Greek - giant huntsman)
Osiris (Egyptian - god of the afterlife)
Phoenix (Greek - firebird that is reborn from its ashes)
Thor (Norse - god of thunder)

Names from mythology often have a distinct beauty to them, and often sound quite mystical. But I would always be hesitant to actually use them. I imagine it would be quite difficult to drop their associations, and a lot of them would be quite hard to live up to - could you imagine trying to live up to the name of a goddess or god? But it would probably be even worse with names of antagonistic figures, like Loki and Mordred. And then there are some names, that while the associations aren’t too obvious, the names themselves are extremely out-there, and might cause difficulties in schools and such.

But even with those issues surrounding them, I still find mythological names beautiful and fascinating. So what are everyone else’s favourite names from mythology? And are there any you’d be game to actually use?

Thanks for reading, and I hope this was enjoyable!

Candace's Guest Post

Today's guest post is from Candace, enjoy!!
-----

For beginnings, I will cover my own name, Candace April:

Candace: I like my name. When I was younger, I did not because I felt like I didn’t have my
own name, being that I was named after my grandmother. But, as she never uses Candace, and
instead goes by Candy, I feel now that I have Candace to myself, and I think it’s a pretty name.

(2) – Greek origin: meaning – “fire white”
(3) – Biblical origin: meaning – “queen mother”

April: This also was a family thing, my middle being chosen by my grandfather. He picked his
birth month as my name, and I’ve grown to like it, despite this not being my birth month.

spring.

Part two of character names

Here is part two of Grace's post!

Now on to the Gentlemen!

Nicholas (Harvesting the Heart): Nicholas is such a strong adorable name! Though I don’t like
the nickname Nick L The character in the book does go by the full Nicholas though J

Ian (Keeping Faith): Ian is so adorable! I love how short it is!

Jack (Salem Falls): Jack is such an amazing name! I know a lot, but I still find it cute, and
strong!

Jordan (The Pact, Salem Falls, Nineteen Minutes): So if I have to have a defense attorney, I
want Jordan McAfee! He appears in 3 of Picoult’s novels, and hopefully more to come! I do love
his name too!

Ethan (Second Glance): Ethan is such an adorable name! I seriously love it, even if it is
popular!

Eli (Second Glance): Short, sweet, adorable, what more is there to say/

Christian (Change of Heart): Such a lovely name, but I wouldn’t use it because I’m nervous to
use it because what happens if my son isn’t a Christian?

Jacob (House Rules): I seriously love the story in this book, everyone should read it! Jacob is
such an adorable name; I can see why it is still so popular.

Theo (House Rules): I adore the name Theo, I think it is just so adorable!

Oliver (House Rules): I adore the name Oliver, too bad my family thinks it’s stupid!

Maxwell “Max” (Sing You Home): Such an adorable name, even if for most of the book I hate
his character

Reid (Sing You Home): Such an adorable name, like Max, but unlike the character Max who
you end up liking at the end of the story, I always disliked Reid, if you read the book (which you
should) you’ll see why!

Edward (Lone Wolf): Edward is such an adorable name, but I hate all the nicknames for it!

Luke (Lone Wolf): While his character is tragic in the story, I do love his name!

So those are my favorite names from Jodi Picoult novels! Maybe once I finish The Storyteller,
I’ll do another blog post on names from that book J

Jodi Picoult Books Characters

Sorry it's so late!
Enjoy this post from Gracie!  Part two will come next week!

----------
Hi guys! Gracie (grace63 on formspring) here, and I’m going to be guest blogging today :D. I am obsessed with Jodi Picoult and as I pick up her newest book (The Storyteller) I am excited to read the amazing story I am sure is going to come, but I am also excited to read about the
amazing names she picks for her characters. I have read almost all of her books, so I’m going to pick some of my favorite names from them. I’m not sure if there will be the same amount of boys and girls, but I’ll put the book that they are from, if I’ve read it, and if I liked it!

Let’s start with the ladies!

Paige (Harvesting the Heart, Loved): I seriously love this book, and this name. Harvesting the
Heart is Ms. Picoult’s second novel, and is an awesome story. Paige is also a lovely Irish name,
which really appeals to me, it’s short, and simple, and just lovely!

Emily (The Pact, Loved): Again, love the book, love the name. Emily is sweet and classic, and
even though it’s popular, I do love it. Though I can’t use it, I have 2 cousins with this name L

Augusta (The Pact, Loved): This is such a sweet name. It’s the name of a mother in The Pact
and she is called Gus, which I think is cute and spunky too!

Faith (Keeping Faith, Loved): This was such a lovely book, and the little girl who is named
Faith was just adorable. This really made me love this name!

Mariah (Keeping Faith, Loved): Mariah was the mother in this book, and she was amazing, she
also really made me love her name!

Addie (Salem Falls, Loved): So, I’m kind of obsessed with the name Addie. I don’t love any
full named for it though, so what do you all think, can Addie work as a full name?

Nina (Perfect Match, Haven’t read): I love Nina, it’s short, and sweet.

Cecelia (Second Glance, Haven’t read): Oh how I love the name Cecelia! It’s beautiful and
classy! Too bad my mom despises it!

Meredith (Second Glance, Haven’t read): Meredith is so adorable, but my obsession with
Grey’s Anatomy might be the source of my love for this one!

Lucy (Second Glance, Haven’t read): How adorable is the name Lucy? I personally love it, it
reminds me of I Love Lucy and the Peanuts comics!

Delia (Vanishing Acts, Liked): This is such an adorable name! In this book, Delia is a nickname
for Cordelia, which I think is super cute too.

Sophie (Vanishing Acts, Liked): I adore the name Sophie! But I have a cousin Sophia who goes
by Sophie, is it off limits for me?

Josephine “Josie” (Nineteen Minutes, LOVED!): Seriously this might be my favorite Jodi
Picoult book, I’m obsessed, lol. Josephine is seriously adorable too!

June (Change of Heart, Liked): June is such an adorable name, it’s short, sweet, and easy to
spell!

Elizabeth (Change of Heart, Liked): I probably don’t need to talk much about this name, if you
know me, you know, I’m obsessed with it

Claire (Change of Heart, Liked): oh, Lordy, why is my family so well named? My aunt is
named Claire, so I can’t use it, but I want to sooo badly

Maggie (Change of Heart, Liked): Like Addie, I LOVE just Maggie! But is it usable by itself?

Charlotte (Handle With Care, Loved): I adore the name Charlotte, it’s so adorable!

Willow (Handle With Care, Loved): I LOVE the name Willow, but it really doesn’t fit in with
my other names L

Amelia (Handle With Care, Loved): I feel the same way about Amelia as I do Charlotte

Piper (Handle With Care, Loved): I feel the same way about Piper as I do Willow

Emma (Handle With Care, House Rules, Loved, Loved): Such an adorable name, I don’t even
care about how popular it is!

Zoe (Sing You Home, LOVED!): This is in the running with Nineteen Minutes as my favorite
Picoult novel. Zoe is an adorable name, and an amazing, amazing, amazing character.

Cara (Lone Wolf, Kinda Liked): Honestly, I can’t decide if I like Lone Wolf, but I do ADORE
the name Cara J

Check back next week for the boy's names!

Happy Friday!!  Anyone else SO happy that Friday is FINALLY here?  Yeah, me too!  Hope you have a great Friday & weekend!  Enjoy this post from Emily!!

Lala la hi hi hi hahaha blah blah jaja jumbo blah gaga ty ty rah. Does this sound random to you yet? That's good if it does because my blog post today is going to be very random. I am on http://www.babynamegenie.com/baby-name-generator/ and I am going to randomly generate 10 names, and share my ideas on each. I put surprise me down for the gender, so everything is going to be completely random! Let's get started!

First Random Name: Clarissa Savannah
I really like the name Clarissa. I think it's a perfect sound, and very adorable look. It just looks so spunky. However, I was discussing this name with one of my friends and she said that it just sounds so stuck up, so I think I'm going to keep it on my Guilty Pleasure list for now. I do not especially like Savannah because I think it looks funny, and it just sounds a little trashy and unclassy to me (sorry to all named Savannah!)

Second Random Name: Bailey Mandie
I dislike the name Bailey because I just think it doesn't age well, and I can't get over the fact that it used to be a boys name. Mandie is secretly one of my favorite names, lol. Like seriously, I would name this baby I'm pregnant with Mandie right now. But I think it just sounds so nicknamey and I really don't like the full name Amanda at ALL. I wish there was a full name I liked to use it with! So basically, I adore Mandie.

Third Random Name: Paxton Zachary
Woo! First boys name of the day :) I don't really like Paxton because I think it's just so... I don't know, not official sounding if that makes sense. I picture a little boy who is always playing in the mud getting dirty and fighting with other boys (haha sorry little Paxton's!). I adore Zachary. I like the nickname Zach too :)

Fourth Random Name: Jewel Rachel
While we were convinced we would name this baby Juliette, we were planning on calling her Jewels, so I do like Jewel as a nickname but I think it sounds so trashy as a firstname. (Sorry Jewel's of the world!) I like Rachel I just think it's a little dated.

Fifth Random Name: Kyra Emma
I don't particularly like Kyra. I like Emma a whole lot I could just never use it since my name is Emily. I don't like how they both end in the A sound. I think that's a trend on this website, the combos with names ending in the same sound... Except for Paxton Zachary so far all the combos have been this way.

Sixth Random Name: Curtis Joseph
I don't really like Curtis. It sounds like a last name to me, and I just really can't picture a baby Curtis. I like Joseph :) Especially because my neice's middle name is Josephine so i really like the sound

Seventh Random Name: Barbara Natalie
I really dislike Barbara. It's SO dated, and I mean baby Barbara? I also dislike the nickname Barbie, because come on, can't you just see the teasting potential? Also with Josh's last name, her initials would be B.S.... Hmm, yeah I'll pass. I really adore Natalie. I like Natalia a little bit more, but Natalie is adorable too!

Eight Random Name: Emilio Sterling
I don't like Emilio because my name is Emily... And how tacky would it be if I named my son Emilio. I also have absolutely no Latin heritage so that would be so strange to have a completely white little boy named Emilio (not being racist at all!). I like Sterling in a Guilty Pleasure kind of way, but I think it just sounds like the name of a little weak boy haha.

Ninth Random Name: Harold Colton
I dislike Harold. It makes me think of boogers and old men haha. Baby Harold? No thank you. I also dislike the nickname Harry. I like Colton a little... but it's definitely not a favorite at all.

Tenth and Final Random Name: Alice Sophia
OH MY GOODNESS THIS NAME IS LITERALLY PURE PERFECTION AHHH I ADORE ALICE SOPHIA SO MUCH<33333 There is literally nothing wrong with this name at all. I love both names, I love the combination, I love absolutely every single detail about it.

Overall, my favorite combo is Alice Sophia. My favorite name as a whole on the list (besides Alice or Sophia since I don't want to re-use names) is Mandie<3

Thanks for reading my very random blog post!

Guest Post: Best Names of the Bad Girls Club

Happy Friday!  Enjoy this guest post from Raya!  Please contact us if you would like to guest post!!
----
Hi! This is Raya aka TabithaLillian from Formspring with another guest post. One of the only reality shows I have ever watched is the Bad Girls Club on Oxygen. It is about a bunch of women who live in a mansion together and often, tempers run hot. There is a lot of fighting, tears, and pranks. I am going to give a run-down of the most interesting names from all seasons of the show and what I thought of the girls who wore those monikers.

Cordelia (Season 2) - Cordelia is a Shakespearean name of “unknown” meaning and it is not in the top 1000. She was also character in the play “King Lear”. I have always had a soft spot for the name Cordelia, since a character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer is also named Cordelia. Cordelia on BGC was cool and by the end, she and the next girl I am going to mention were thick as thieves.

Tanisha (Season 2) - Tanisha is an African name than means “born on Monday” and is not in the top 1000. I don’t really like the name Tanisha, but I do love the girl. She was feisty and had a take-charge attitude I admire. She has often come back on Oxygen to host many of the BGC reunion shows.

Florina “Flo” (Season 4) - Florina is a Latin name that means “flower” and is not in the top 1000. I really like the name Florina, but I prefer the similar Flora or Floria. Flo from the BGC was a tough girl who partied hard and played harder. She is definitely more of a Flo and less of a Florina.

Wilmarie “Wilma” (Season 6) - Wilmarie is a combination of Wilma and Marie and it is not in the top 1000. I have grown to actually really like Wilmarie, but I do prefer the similar Wilhelmina. Wilma from the BGC was really cool and often won most of the fights she got into.

Judith “Judi” (Season 7) - Judith is a Hebrew name that means “of Judea” and is at #838 on the charts. I have never been a fan of Judith, but I love the nickname Judi. Judi on the BGC was always getting into fights and causing trouble, but that is part of the reason I liked her so much.

Nastasia “Stasi” (Season 7) - Nastasia is a Greek name that means “resurrection” and is not in the top 1000. I really love the name Natasia, although most people prefer Anastasia. I also really like the nickname Stasi over Stacey. Stasi from the BGC was very beautiful, but also very mean and often got into fights with the other girls. She and Judi were best friends in the house, along with another girl named Tiara.

Priscilla (Season 7) - Priscilla is a Latin name that means “ancient” and is at #487 on the popularity charts. I love, love, love the name Priscilla. In fact, it is #12 on my own list. It sounds so sweet and I love the nickname Cilla, but hate the nickname Prissy. Priscilla from the BGC was no priss either. She was short, but loud and funny. I loved her.

Gia (Season 8) - Gia is an Italian name than means “God is gracious” and is at #299 on the popularity charts. I like the name Gia and think it is cute. It is similar to a nickname I have picked out for my first daughter which is Gina. Gia from the BGC was tiny, but had a big personality. She would often get into fights (most of these girls do) and was also very beautiful.

Demitra “Mimi” (Season 8) - Demitra is a Greek name take from the God Demeter and is not in the top 1000. I don’t really like Demitra or the similar Demetria, but I do love the nickname Mimi. It reminds me of the character from Rent. Mimi from the BGC was one of my favorite girls because she was actually down-to –earth. Most girls on the BGC are not so level-headed.

Camilla (Season 8) - Camilla is a Latin name that means “altar server” and is #458 on the popularity charts. Camilla from the show actually pronounced her name KAH-MEE-LAH. I love this pronunciation but spelled Camila which is the Spanish form of Camilla. On the show, Camilla was brought in to stir up trouble and she did that by getting on everyone’s nerves.

Falen (Season 9) - Falen is a Gaelic name which means “leader” and is not in the top 1000. I love the name Falen, but prefer the spelling Fallon. It is such a cool name and I knew a Fallon growing up which made me like it even more. Falen from the BGC was really cool and had a unique style of dress that I really liked.

Well, that is it for this post. I hope you enjoyed it.

William Shakespeare is considered to be one of, if not the most, inspirational writer and playwright in the world of literature and media. Beyond his brilliant work, he also used many fabulous names. I’ve compiled a brief list of favorites and explain who they are and why I adore them.

  • Angus: (m) A minor character in Macbeth. This is a strong, masculine name with many associations. Most people would probably think of the meat rather than the Shakespearean character, but there’s also Angus Young of AC/DC, which I feel redeems the name.
  • Beatrice: (f) A central character in Much Ado About Nothing. The name oozes class and elegance, with a spunky twist, due to the independent and charming character in the play previously mentioned. This is one of my all time favorite names because it’s timeless.
  • Celia: (f) A central character in As You Like It. This name is stunning in its simplicity. Celia almost has a musical quality to it, maybe because of the close relation to Cecilia, the patron saint of music and musicians.
  • Edmund: (m) Appears in King Lear and Henry IV. There are several Ed- names for boys, but this one is my favorite. It’s a strong name with history, yet it hasn’t been completely worn out. It’s a great alternative to Edward.
  • Imogen: (f) A character in Cymbeline. In my opinion, his is the epitome of feminine British names. It’s vintage yet very quirky, a name you could see on either a couple hundred years ago or on a little girl. It’s charming, youthful, and fun.
  • Juliet: (f) A central character in Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is possibly the most recognized Shakespearean name. The character has an ill-fated ending, but her beautiful name continues to endure in rising popularity.
  • Lysander: (m) A central character in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This dashing ancient Greek name is a bold alternative to Alexander and surprisingly uncommon. Lysander also especially sounds great as a middle name.
  • Oberon: (m) A central character in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The mythology of this King of Fairies goes as far back as the 13th century. His name is unusual, yet handsome, and is perfect for adding a little regality to a name combination.
  • Ophelia: (f) A central character in Hamlet. This tragic heroine’s moniker is one of the most recognizable on this list. Although the connection is rather unfortunate, the name itself is stunning and exotic.
  • Prospero: (m) The central character in The Tempest. This name is more on the daring side, but it makes a handsome choice nonetheless for parents who want their little boy to prosper. It stands out in a positive way.
  • Rosalind: (f) The central character in As You Like It. Ros(e)- names are always stunning and popular. They’re feminine and graceful. Rosalind is no exception to this and makes a beautiful first, and even more lovely middle, name.
  • Sebastian: (m) Appears in The Tempest and As You Like It. The name Sebastian may conjure a red crab with a Jamaican accent in most people’s minds, but the name itself is an extremely handsome one. It’s a personal favorite because it sounds wonderful when paired with almost any name.

Guest Blogger: Samantha

Happy Friday!!  Enjoy today's blog post from Samantha!
----

Hello!! I'm Samantha:) (aka @Winterrrose on formspring) I am also an awesome Nebraskan myself and I am going to blog about music names, some of them are unisex but I prefer them on a particular gender:)))) I have played Viola FOREVER IT FEELS LIKE:) So let's get going!:)

Girls::

-Harper: I've always thought of Harper as a girls name, because when I think of a Harp Player for some reason I think of a girl, so Harper has always been a girl name for me, even though it can be a boys name, I just find a little bit more feminine. This name is popular, but now that David and Victoria Beckham's daughter is named Harper, I think it is just going to get more and more popular:) I just love the way it sounds and looks, and as someone who is involved in music I can see myself having a Harper because of it being musical.

Favorite Combo for Harper:: Harper Faith

-Etude: Etude is SOOO guilty pleasure for me! I think that it so adorable and cute, and works well for a girl. Maybe it is more usable for a middle name, but personally it is a little too GP for me. I personally find Etudes to be difficult sometimes to play, but I love it as a name!

Favorite Combo for Etude::
 I don't have one:(

-Aria: Solo Melody:)))) One of my all time favorites, it used to be the top of my list (until Gemma and Lilah came along:) I think Aria is so pretty and gorgeous, and cute. Totally can see this name aging well:)

Favorite Combo for Aria::
 Aria Katherine (or Catherine:)

-Symphony: MY ALL TIME FAVORITE GP NAME! I used to always say I would have a daughter Symphony Grey (I was in like 8th grade) Symphony is so gorgeous and I adore Symphonies anyway, so it seemed fitting...Symphony is one of those names I feel as if it is too grand for a little girl, I think whenever I have a daughter she will have Symphony somewhere in a room like some people have Live.Laugh.Love in their house.

Favorite Combo for Symphony:: Symphony Grey

-Harmony: Harmony I feel as if is more usable than Symphony for a name...Also on Glee one of the Glee Project season 1 finalist, Lindsay Pierce's character was named Harmony on Glee and personally loved her Rachel-esque character...And thought it was extremely adorable. I love it and think it so feminine and I like it more than Melody personally.

Favorite Combo for Harmony:: Harmony Kate

-Minuet: Another favorite name of mine...If I could use it, I totally would, Minuet sounds so beautiful and gorgeous and girly!!! Can't you picture a cute little theatre major named Minuet? It is a little GP, but I love it so much that maybe one day I will feel a little more adventurous and name a daughter Minuet.

Favorite Combo for Minuet::
 Minuet Rose

-Piper:
Another name like Harper that I adore!!!! But I personally love it because of Charmed, I think Holly Marie Combs' character was fantastic and totally made me love the names Phoebe, Piper, Paige, and Prue by itself (I dislike Prudence for some reason) a lot...

Favorite Combo for Piper:: Piper Josephine

-Calliope: Adore this name!!! It is Greek and it means "Beautiful Voiced" I feel like it is so girly and adorable:) It also reminds me of Grey's Anatomy...I love the nickname Callie because it just feels so feminine and precious:)

Favorite Combo for Calliope:: Calliope Belle.

Final girls name::

-Rhapsody: Yes, Rhapsody...It is SOOO GP it isn't even funny, however I adore it and think it is so precious and girly!!! And you could call her Rae or something...I feel like If someone was super adventurous they could name their daughter Rhapsody.

Favorite Combo for Rhapsody:: None:(

Now for the boys, there aren't as many as the girls, but there are some...

Alto: Alto is in reference to Alto Clef which is the clef that Viola players play in or in reference to an Alto Saxophone. I think Alto is super cool and not like Jagger or whatever, works well for a boy and I feel like Alto as a name that no other name sounds like...

Favorite Combo for Alto::
None:(

Cello: An extremely interesting name, I feel it is WAY too guilty pleasure for me, but I really do love Cello and think it is really cool for a boy. It just sounds like it rocks and I can picture a little boy being named Cello:)

Favorite Combo for Cello:: None:(

Lyric: Lyric for a boy is a GP name because of Ashley Parker Angel's son Lyric. I remember hearing it and I thought his name is so cool! Lyric sounds awesome on both a boy and a girl, but for this I put it as boy, because there aren't that many boys music names I like.

Favorite Combo for Lyric:: Lyric Anthony.

And final boys name:)

Tempo: It sounds quite random, like who would name their child Tempo, but honestly, I think it is kind of adorable. I can picture a little man named Tempo or having the middle name Tempo because it is so interesting. It just sounds cool, Tempo. I would assume the little man would be a whole ball of energy if his name was Tempo.

Favorite Combo for Tempo:: None.

So what are YOUR favorite music names or combos from this list? These are honestly just are my favorite ones, there are plenty more!!--
