The Gosselin's Names!

Happy Monday!
One of my favorite shows a few years back was Jon and Kate + 8. I have all the seasons on DVD and I watched it religiously. Sadly, the show went downhill after Jon and Kate got a divorce in 2009. That is when I stopped watching, because it wasn't the same.
Even though the show isn't on anymore, I still think about it from time to time and remember how ADORABLE their kids and their names are! I fell in love with my #1 name (Lia) and my #2 (Hannah) from watching this show.
I will provide a picture of each family member with their name, the meaning & origin of the name, if it has ever been on my favorites list (spelling doesn't matter) and what I think of it. For meaning, origin & "ever on my list", the "/" separates first and middle names. They are in order from oldest to youngest. Enjoy!

Name: Kate Irene
Meaning: "Pure" / "Peace"
Origin: English / Greek
Ever on my list?: No / No
What I think: I absolutely love the name Kate. I would use it as a middle name to honor my cousin, Sara Kate. I am shocked that it has never been on my list. I don't like Irene.

Name: Jonathan Keith
Meaning: "gift of Jehovah" / "wood"
Origin: Hebrew / Scottish
Ever on my list?: No / No
What I think: Not a fan of either name
*Could find a recent picture of them individually, sorry*
Name (left): Cara Nicole
Name (right): Madelyn Kate "Mady"
Meaning (left): "dear" / "people of victory"
Meaning (right): "high tower" / "pure"
Origin (left): Latin / Greek
Origin (right): English / English
Ever on my list? (left): Yes, November 2012-March 2013 / No
Ever on my list? (right): No / No
What I think: I love their names so much! I think they work well together and they suit their names. I don't like Nicole, and I prefer the spelling Kara, but there is nothing else I dislike about them.
Name: Alexis Faith
Meaning: "Defending men" / "faith"
Origin: English / Virtue name
Ever on my list?: Yes, October-November 2012 / No
What I think: All of the Gosselin's names could not be any more perfect, including Alexis's. I do have a love/hate relationship with Alexis, but I am loving it at the moment.
Name: Hannah Joy
Meaning: "grace" / "joy"
Origin: Hebrew / Word name
Ever on my list?: Yes, November 2012-present / No
What I think: I love the name Hannah. I took it off of my list for a while, but added it back in late 2012 after my neighbor announced that they are naming their daughter Hannah. It lit a spark and I fell in love with it again. It is now my #2 name. I am not a fan of Joy, but it works well with Hannah.
Name: Aaden Jonathan
Meaning: "little and fiery" / "gift of Jehovah"
Origin: Irish / Hebrew
Ever on my list?: Yes, May 2012-present / No
What I think: I love the name Aidan, but not the spelling Aaden. I also don't like the flow of it. He fits the name 100%!
Name: Collin Thomas
Meaning: "pup" / "twin"
Origin: Scottish / Aramaic
Ever on my list?: Yes, November 2012-present / No
What I think: Out of all the Gosselin boys, Collin's first and middle are my favorite. I think they flow well together. Colin is, at the moment, the middle name for my #4 AND it is my #5 name.
Name: Leah Hope
Meaning: "weary" / "hope"
Origin: Hebrew / Virtue name
Ever on my list?: Yes, 2008-present / No
What I think: I'm sure you all know what I think of this one. I LOVE IT! Lia (Italian variation of Leah) is my #1 name and has been for years. Hope pairs with it so well. I love this combo and she is precious.
Name: Joel Kevin
Meaning: "Jehovah is the lord" / "handsome"
Origin: Hebrew / Irish
Ever on my list?: No / No
What I think: I honestly thought I had Joel on my list... I love it so much. I guess I'll go add it when I finish with this! Its such a short and sweet name. I am not really a fan of many one syllable names for boys, but I actually really love Joel.

Well that's it! That is the Gosselin family. What are your favorite names from the names above?
Have a great week!

My Guilty Pleasure Names

Guilty pleasure names. I’m not sure if other baby namers agree with me, but guilty pleasure names rank right up there with cats and Starbucks on my personal list of favorite things. There’s something so fun about thinking of outlandish names and becoming famous enough to use them. To me, guilty pleasure encompasses everything from made up to blatant wrong genders to, to loaded associations to just plain odd. A lot of my favorite guilty pleasure names come from books as well. So, without further ado, here are my top five guilty pleasures on either gender :)

Girls

Arcadia
Arcadia was a name for a region in ancient Greece derived from the word for bear. I’m sure the first place I heard Arcadia was on formspring, but I can’t for the life of me remember from whom. For someone with a more adventurous style, Arcadia is completely usable, but it’s a little much for this more timid namer. It was an instant guilty pleasure love though!

Calico
I first heard this one in a celeb magazine; I want to say Star. Rocker Alice Cooper has a daughter named Calico Dashiell Cooper. While both Dashiell and the alliteration of Calico Cooper make me cringe, I adore the name. I think it’s so light and pretty and evokes images of floral fabric and autumn colored kitties. It’s been on my guilty pleasure list the longest.

November
November comes from the Latin word novem, which means 9. Although November is now the 11th month of the year, it was the 9th in the Roman calendar. My birthday is in November and I’d always thought it was a gorgeous word. Considering 9 has been my lucky number my whole life, the meaning just makes it better!

Shay
Shay is an Anglicization of an Irish boys name, SÊaghdha, meaning admirable. I’ve heard Shay equally on boys and girls and although I love the name, I can’t handle the ambiguity of it. Although I do like it on both genders, I think it’s super spunky and cute for a girl.

Victoriana
Victoriana is an elaboration of Victoria. I first heard this name on a Butter London nail polish shade. First of all, I’d recommend everyone run to your nearest The Bay (or Ulta if you’re American) because it’s seriously one of the most gorgeous nail polishes I’ve ever owned. Second of all, I think its name is as gorgeous as the color; which is a huge compliment believe me.

Boy

Colt
Here I have a semi embarrassing confession. I HATE horses. Like seriously. I can’t stand them. That said, even though a colt is literally a baby horse, I think it’s a precious name. I think a Colt would be super energetic and fun to be around. What makes this a gp for me, aside from the horse association, is the handgun association. I would use it as an occasional nickname for Colton though.

Maverick
Maverick is an English name derived from a word meaning independent. As a moderate Toronto Raptors fan, the first place I heard the name Maverick was in relation to the Dallas Mavericks. My family is far too into sports for this name to be usable for me, but for an adventurous, non sporty namer, I think Maverick is a pretty badass choice.

Romeo
I’m sure you can all guess where I first heard this one. Romeo and Juliet is not one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, but Romeo is one of my favorite Shakespearean boy’s names. I love the sound and the o ending. I just don’t want to saddle some poor kid with spending his life being asked where his Juliet is.

Sapphire
Sapphire is an English gemstone name more commonly used on girls. Whilst you’re out picking up Victoriana nail polish, I suggest you pick up the Graceling Trilogy by Kristen Cashore. If you’re a purist about these kinds of things, read book one and two first, if not, skip right to three. They’re all companion books, so don’t technically have to be read in order. A main character in three is a thief named Sapphire nn Saf who is definitely in my top five book boy crushes and made me absolutely adore his name. I also think Saf as a nickname is great.

Sedge
I promise this is the last thing I will suggest you buy, but after purchasing Victoriana and the Graceling trilogy, pick up the first two books in the Pure trilogy by Julianna Baggott. This book is full of super interesting names, including the two main characters Pressia and Partridge. Sedge is the name of Partridge’s older brother. Sedge is a type of grass that grows in wetlands. Although I guess it could be usable for a big nature name enthusiast, I consider it one of my more out there gp names.

Disclaimer: You don’t actually have to go buy the things I told you to (but for reals, if you bought Victoriana you wouldn’t regret it). As a reader, I also drift towards fantasies and dystopias, so although I adored Pure (haven’t read Fuse yet) and the Graceling trilogy, others might not. Anyway, if you have an thoughts on my gps or gps of your own, feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts!

Guest Blogger: Emily

Happy Friday!!  Anyone else SO happy that Friday is FINALLY here?  Yeah, me too!  Hope you have a great Friday & weekend!  Enjoy this post from Emily!!

Lala la hi hi hi hahaha blah blah jaja jumbo blah gaga ty ty rah. Does this sound random to you yet? That's good if it does because my blog post today is going to be very random. I am on http://www.babynamegenie.com/baby-name-generator/ and I am going to randomly generate 10 names, and share my ideas on each. I put surprise me down for the gender, so everything is going to be completely random! Let's get started!

First Random Name: Clarissa Savannah
I really like the name Clarissa. I think it's a perfect sound, and very adorable look. It just looks so spunky. However, I was discussing this name with one of my friends and she said that it just sounds so stuck up, so I think I'm going to keep it on my Guilty Pleasure list for now. I do not especially like Savannah because I think it looks funny, and it just sounds a little trashy and unclassy to me (sorry to all named Savannah!)

Second Random Name: Bailey Mandie
I dislike the name Bailey because I just think it doesn't age well, and I can't get over the fact that it used to be a boys name. Mandie is secretly one of my favorite names, lol. Like seriously, I would name this baby I'm pregnant with Mandie right now. But I think it just sounds so nicknamey and I really don't like the full name Amanda at ALL. I wish there was a full name I liked to use it with! So basically, I adore Mandie.

Third Random Name: Paxton Zachary
Woo! First boys name of the day :) I don't really like Paxton because I think it's just so... I don't know, not official sounding if that makes sense. I picture a little boy who is always playing in the mud getting dirty and fighting with other boys (haha sorry little Paxton's!). I adore Zachary. I like the nickname Zach too :)

Fourth Random Name: Jewel Rachel
While we were convinced we would name this baby Juliette, we were planning on calling her Jewels, so I do like Jewel as a nickname but I think it sounds so trashy as a firstname. (Sorry Jewel's of the world!) I like Rachel I just think it's a little dated.

Fifth Random Name: Kyra Emma
I don't particularly like Kyra. I like Emma a whole lot I could just never use it since my name is Emily. I don't like how they both end in the A sound. I think that's a trend on this website, the combos with names ending in the same sound... Except for Paxton Zachary so far all the combos have been this way.

Sixth Random Name: Curtis Joseph
I don't really like Curtis. It sounds like a last name to me, and I just really can't picture a baby Curtis. I like Joseph :) Especially because my neice's middle name is Josephine so i really like the sound

Seventh Random Name: Barbara Natalie
I really dislike Barbara. It's SO dated, and I mean baby Barbara? I also dislike the nickname Barbie, because come on, can't you just see the teasting potential? Also with Josh's last name, her initials would be B.S.... Hmm, yeah I'll pass. I really adore Natalie. I like Natalia a little bit more, but Natalie is adorable too!

Eight Random Name: Emilio Sterling
I don't like Emilio because my name is Emily... And how tacky would it be if I named my son Emilio. I also have absolutely no Latin heritage so that would be so strange to have a completely white little boy named Emilio (not being racist at all!). I like Sterling in a Guilty Pleasure kind of way, but I think it just sounds like the name of a little weak boy haha.

Ninth Random Name: Harold Colton
I dislike Harold. It makes me think of boogers and old men haha. Baby Harold? No thank you. I also dislike the nickname Harry. I like Colton a little... but it's definitely not a favorite at all.

Tenth and Final Random Name: Alice Sophia
OH MY GOODNESS THIS NAME IS LITERALLY PURE PERFECTION AHHH I ADORE ALICE SOPHIA SO MUCH<33333 There is literally nothing wrong with this name at all. I love both names, I love the combination, I love absolutely every single detail about it.

Overall, my favorite combo is Alice Sophia. My favorite name as a whole on the list (besides Alice or Sophia since I don't want to re-use names) is Mandie<3

Thanks for reading my very random blog post!
