Laid Back BNG

I love being able to name kids as I please on BNG's so this week I'm going to give the number of kids you have based on the month YOU were born and then you need to name your children.  The day of the month you were born will determine what letter you and your husband's names start with.  Name you and your husband also!  ENJOY!

The month YOU were born depends on how many kids you have in this game!

January -- 3 kids (2 boys and a girl)
February -- 2 kids (a boy and girl)
March -- 3 kids including twin girls (three girls)
April -- 5 kids (3 boys and 2 girls)
May -- 2 kids (a boy and girl)
June -- 2 kids (boys)
July -- 4 kids (2 boys and 2 girls)
August -- 2 kids (girls)
September -- 3 kids (2 girls and a boy)
October -- 4 kids (all girls)
November -- 6 kids (3 girls and 3 boys)
December  -- 3 kids (boys)

If you born:
The 1st to the 8th -- Your name starts with a letter between A to G and your Husband starts between D and J. (You pick  names)
The 9th to 15th -- Your name starts with J to R and your husband starts with R to Z.  (You pick  names)
The 15th to 24th -- Your name starts between R and Z and your husband starts with A to G.  (You pick  names)
The 25th to 31st -- Your name starts between T and Z and your husband starts with F to N.  (You pick  names)

Name you and your husband and then name all of your kids (Number of kids depends on month you were born!)

"The Giver" Names

Hello everyone! Happy Thursday! I know I missed my post last time, but life is especially crazy for me right now. I’m in 3 AP classes (college level for those who don’t know what AP is) and those exams are coming up soon, as well as trying to decide on college, all my additional homework, as well as work and all the volunteering that I do, I just have no extra time.

So on with the post! I am utterly and completely obsessed with the book The Giver by Lois Lowry! I just reread it, and am now obsessed with the names in it! So today I'm going to talk about some of the awesome names in the book :) (I'll put the US 2012 popularity numbers in parenthesis)

Jonas (#474)- Jonas is the main character of The Giver and I really love his name. I think it's super adorable and could fit a lot of different types of little boys. Now that 'The Jonas Brother' aren't too big of a thing, I see this name as much more usable.

Asher (#108)- This is the name of Jonas's best friend in the book, and I'm also really liking his name (I might say this about all the names, I'm in book hangover mode). Asher has been slowly gaining popularity over the past few years, and I see it entering into the top 100 when the list for 2013 comes out in about a month.

Fiona (#209)- Fiona is the name of Jonas's crush in the book, and I think she has a super adorable name. I like the name Fiona despite the 'Shrek' association, which I think might (hopefully) be fading in people's minds.

Rosemary (#603)- I don't want to say whose name this is because I don't want to give away anything about the book in case some of you out there haven't read it. Though, I have to say, she has one of the best names in the book! I've really been loving the name Rosemary lately and have been thinking about putting it on my list!

Lily (#16)- This is the name of Jonas's little sister, and I find it adorable. I love that Lily has a bit of spunk but is also soft and pretty. Though it's popular, I still think that it sounds fresh and lovely.

Gabriel (#24)- Again, not going to say whose name this is as to not give anything away, but I seriously love his name! The name Gabriel just sounds so sophisticated and lovely. I would totally use the name Gabriel except for the fact that I really dislike the nickname Gabe :(

So that's it! None of the adults in the book are named. Also, and interesting thing about the names in The Giver is that no one in the community that Jonas lives in can have the same name, so there are no repeats!

Your opinion: leave it in the comments! :)

my current favourites!

I know better than to make this post as Hayley's law suggests the moment I publish it, I'll hate all the things, but here goes nothing!
Girls

Gracia Claire - I first heard Gracia on the show The Voice. I fell totally in love with it but was always concerned people would be more apt to pronounce it Gray-see-uh as opposed to Gray-shuh, but I was looking for something feminine but not frilly that sounds good with Maxine and I think it fits the bill. Claire is my nana's name and I cant imagine not using in my a combo if I had a girl.

Maxine Alyssa - I'd never really considered Maxine until recently, but my dad mentioned it in a discussion about what he'd name me and I got the BIGGEST name crush on it ever. Seriously I could sooo see me with a Maxine more than maybe any other name I've ever liked. Alyssa is my best friends name and I think it pairs well with Maxine.

Ivy Elizabeth - Ivy's been a long time love of mine that pops on and off my list. I find it so cute and feminine without being too much. Elizabeth is to honor my mother (Bessie) who is named after her grandmother Elizabeth.

Boys

Calder Douglas - Calder is a name I've only discovered recently. It was mentioned on a baby name facebook group and I totally dig it! I was looking for a Hunter replacement and it has the same feel as well as the super cool Calder Cup association. Douglas is my dad's name and one I've really grown to love.

Bowen Isaac - My love of Bowen mostly stems from my love of Bo as a nickname but I think Bowen is cool in its own right too! It's like a fun little brother of Owen which I also love but just doesnt feel as "me" to me. Isaac is my brother's middle name and I love it here

Oakley Sullivan - I adore Oakley, but I just dont think I'm cool enough to use it haha. That said, since most of my fav boy names end in the -en/-an/-in sound, I needed something with a different sound to fit with Sullivan and since its a third name spot I dont mind that I cant see me using!

The Meanings Behind My Main Character Names

Some of you may know that I'm writing a trilogy about 5 children with supernatural powers.  This post will be about the meanings behind the names and why I chose their 1st, middle and last names with a brief description of each character.

Mauve - I wanted the first and last name to be a phrase.  I chose the phrase "bad spirit" and translated it to French (mauvais esprit).  I just took Mauve from it.
Belladonna - Name of a plant that causes hallucinations
Tirpse - "Esprit" backwards
Description: 19, has able to see any type of ghost (not sensitive to "special types").  Older sister to Cora Evangeline and Lux Alexander

Roxanne - Just thought it fit the character and I love this name
Juliet - Means "youthful and downy." Coincides with her ability
Abetlitus (ah-bet-lee-tiss) - Combination of the Latin phrase "Abitus sed non oblitus " meaning "gone but not forgotten"
Description: 18, can see ghosts of children (see where Juliet comes in?).  Cousin to Pax

Pax - Latin meaning peace
Caesar - Taken from Caesarean section where babies are cut out
Abetlitus - Same reason as Roxanne
Description: 18, cousin to Roxanne and can see ghosts that are only residual AND has ability to throw himself into time period to overlook situation.  Name means "cut out peace"

Temperance - Asked in a baby name Facebook group and they all agreed this name fit the character, so I went with it.
Lilika - Hungarian form of Lily.  Lily flower symbolizes purity
Norab-Samedi - Character's family comes from Voodoo ancestry.  Baron Samedi is a well known spirit of Haitian Voodoo lore.  Norab is Baron backwards
Description: 15, black and Louisianan. Comes from Voodoo background. Dainty little thing and is scared of her ability while the others (except Thorne) embrace it. Shy and afraid to speak up.

Thorne - "Every rose has its thorn."Though the character is good looking, he holds a terrible ability.
Amos - Hebrew name meaning "burdened" plus I thought it sounded cool.
Evergreen - He's a jealous character (cheesy I know).
Description: 17, can ONLY see demons

I hope you guys enjoyed this post.  Sorry it's late.  Work stinks.

My opinion: This is a name I used to abhor but now... I love it.  Don't ask me how or why this happened, it just did.  If I were to have an Archer, he WON'T go by Archie because I hate it.  It's very masculine and I think ages well.

A Challenge!!

I've been a wreckkkkkk lately when it comes to boy names. A friend from high school plans on using Hunter for her son due in August and she is not the kind of girl I want to name share with! Since Hunter Douglas has been my top name for literal ever, I've basically burnt my boys list to the ground and am having trouble coming up with other names I dig. So, this week for my post, I'm gonna put the ball in erreyone else's court! My top 5 girl combos right now are Audrey Claire, Maxine Alyssa, Leah Paige, Tessa Jacqueline and Posy Annabeth. So if anyone wants to take up this challenge, please throw down as many boy names as possible that you could see as brothers to those girl names!
Further help: my general style tends to be occupation name heavy, two syllable, trendy classics. I also require that any name I use being one I could see playing hockey for Team Canada ;)
Any winners of this challenge will win all the friendship points. Good Luck!!
